Outdoor Therapy

We recently launched our outdoor therapy program, which consists of intentionally taking students outdoors to engage in deeper conversations, team building, and relief from the emotions built up inside. It is proven that just 30 minutes outdoors will change the mindset and emotions of an individual, especially when it is outside of his/her “normal” environment. This also allows our students the opportunity to try new things and learn the importance of prioritizing mental and physical health. We were able to kick things off with a day at Camp Rockridge and a trip to Iron P Homestead Zoo.

Camp Rockridge is located in Franklin GA. and provides a unique opportunity to hike and get outside of ones comfort zone. Many of the students had never hiked a mountain and they were able to not only do so, but to feel the incredible self accomplishment of getting to the top and seeing the view. Along the journey the students were also able to participate in ropes courses and other team building activities which contributed to even more growth of their confidence and team work. Everyone had an amazing day and it could be seen on all the smiling faces.

Iron P Homestead Zoo is located in Hogansville GA. and is a wonderfully unique place. They allowed us to bring students for a personalized Zoo experience which allowed the students  to get up close and personal with the animals and learn. There were camels, zebras, monkeys, birds, and even a petting area were the kids could feed and pet some animals. Being able to get outside, see animals some had never seen before, and listening and learning in hands-on environment was an experience none of us will ever forget.

We want to say THANK YOU to Camp Rockridge and Iron P Homestead Zoo for being a part of  helping make dreams a reality and helping us get kids OUTSIDE! If you would like to support our outdoor therapy and other programs, please consider donating directly or contact us for more information on how to get involved!
