Getting Outside For Spring Break

Spring Break 24′ was all about getting outside and trying new things. Throughout the week we were able to take full advantage of the students being out of school with daily Outdoor Therapy trips and other fun activities. It was an epic week full of new experiences and lots of smiles.

Hiking Together

During the week off from school, we were able to take 3 different hiking trips in local areas with a variety of students. We were able to go to Cochran Mill , Line Creek, and Camp Rockridge. to enjoy nature walks together. Hiking challenges students physically while giving them a new experience that can help clear their minds of every day stress. For many of our students, these hiking trips were the first time they’ve really been in the woods and pushed themselves physically in nature. There were tough moments, but the students pushed through and it was amazing to see their confidence building as they conquered each step to reach a beautiful destination.

Getting students outside has been proven to be therapeutic mentally and emotionally and we have seen direct change in behavior and attitude with students that participate in our Outdoor Therapy Program. We plan on continuing GETTING KIDS OUTSIDE as a major part of INSPIRING, EQUIPPING, AND EMPOWERING our community.

Fishing Together

We were also able to take a group fishing for the first time. Being able to teach them each step-by-step process of preparing their gear, baiting their hooks, and catching a fish was a great opportunity to get them to learn something completely new and inspiring. It was an experience that none of us will forget and you can see from their smiles that they had a great day!

Block Parties Together

Block parties are one of our favorite activities and we really enjoyed them being a part of this special week. Taking fun and food to students houses and neighborhoods is always a great opportunity to allow some carefree quality time while also getting to know other members and adults in the area. We will be having a lot more block parties this summer and we cannot wait!

Spending Time Together

In addition to planned Outdoor Therapy Trips, we were also able to take other opportunities to spend time together during the school break. A group of boys from our mentorship program worked hard on community service projects and they were rewarded with a Hawkes basketball game. We spent time on special projects in the Art Room, and there was LOTS of pizza and wings all week. Overall, it was one of the best weeks of the year and mad us look forward to more exciting adventures this summer.
