GO WEEK: NEWNAN & JAMAICA

TCS Volunteer GO WEEK from Newnan to Jamaica

The HGI team was excited to partner with Trinity Christian School (TCS) for a volunteer initiative to give their students the opportunity to give back to the community. The purpose of “GO WEEK” was to give students a week that was dedicated to helping underserved communities, here and abroad. There were two main initiatives that the students were able to participate in, one was at the Hope Center and around our local community, the other was a chance to travel international to Jamaica to help at our sister programs at Spicy Grove Youth Center.

A group of 30 students and volunteered departed on an adventure to Jamaica for a week of service opportunities at Spicy Grove Youth Center. During their trip they were able to help the community in a variety of ways. Some of the initiatives included helping organize and host the First Annual Soccer Tournament for the local Youth Center students, along with an Awards Banquet that highlighted the students who had participated in the tournament. In addition, the GO WEEK in Jamaica was able to help with new home construction for permanent volunteers at the Youth Center, and helping with different daily children programs at the local Church. We have continued to take different groups of volunteers to Jamaica over the past few years to provide an opportunity for people to see that Hope is needed not only at home, but around the world in different underserved communities. The GO WEEK students were able to experience a new place, new people, and new ways to inspire, equip, and empower in a community other than their own.

The other students that participated in GO WEEK were able to volunteer daily at the Hope Center and other initiatives in the Newnan community. Some of the initiatives they were able to accomplish included numerous yard clean-ups for widows and elderly in the community, different programs at the Hope Center, and the opportunity to build and provide handicap ramps for multiple community members that needed them. It was a wonderful week full of students giving back and being exposed to the many needs of the underserved members of our community.

GO WEEK was not just about bringing Hope and Help to the underserved, but was about providing and opportunity for students to get involved and be a part of the solution of inspiring, equipping, and empowering every member of our community. We would like to thank TCS, our HGI volunteers, the students, and everyone that made this week possible. Being able to partner with our community and with people around the world is what will make our goal of restoring HOPE truly possible.
